Edward (Ed) Finn, Jr.: is a Canadian trade unionist and journalist, editor, author and former Newfoundland politician. He was the leader of the Newfoundland Democratic Party and the first leader of the Newfoundland New Democratic Party. Finn was hired by the Canadian Labour Congress and persuaded to lead the Newfoundland Democratic Party into the 1959 provincial election. Smallwood sent his Minister of Labour, Charlie Ballam, to run against Finn in Humber West. Finn came within less than 300 votes of defeating Ballam. He remained leader of the Newfoundland Democratic Party, which became the Newfoundland New Democratic Party, until 1963 and ran in the 1962 provincial election as well as for the federal NDP in Humber—St. George's in the 1962 and 1963 federal elections but was unable to win a seat in either the Newfoundland House of Assembly or the Canadian House of Commons.

Robert Emmett Finn: was a lawyer and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Halifax County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1906 to 1922 and Halifax in the Canadian House of Commons from 1922 to 1925 and from 1936 to 1940 as a Liberal member. He was educated at Dalhousie University, was called to the bar and set up practice in Halifax. In 1902, Finn married Anna Louise Russell. He served as president of the Charitable Irish Society. Finn was a war correspondent with the Canadian contingent during the Second Boer War in South Africa. He served as a minister without portfolio in the province's Executive Council from 1918 to 1922. He resigned his seat in the provincial assembly to run for a federal seat in 1922. Finn was defeated when he ran for reelection to the House of Commons in 1925 and 1940.
