Philips Wouwerman: was a Dutch painter of hunting, landscape and battle scenes.He was first taught by his father, Paul Joosten Wouwerman, an historical painter of moderate ability. According to a contemporary account he had also studied with Frans Hals (1581/85-1666). Wouwerman became a member of its guild of painters in 1642, and he died after a successful career in his hometown in May 1668.

Philips Van Almonde: was a Dutch Lieutenant Admiral, who served in his nation’s maritime conflicts of the 17th and early 18th centuries. He was appointed lieutenant in 1664 by the Admiralty of the Maze. During the Battle of Lowestoft in the Second Anglo-Dutch War he in 1665 took over command from his incapacitated uncle and was on return confirmed in his command on 14 August. He distinguished himself in the Four Days Battle of June 11-14, 1666, where Lieutenant-Admiral Michiel de Ruyter defeated the British fleet under George Monck, 1st Duke of Albemarle. In 1667 he was made a full captain. In 1671 he was captain of the Harderwijk.

Philips Of Marnix, Lord Of Saint-Aldegonde: was a Flemish and Dutch writer and statesman, and the probable author of the text of the Dutch national anthem, the Wilhelmus. He was born at Brussels, the son of Jacob of Marnix, baron of Pottes.Marnix of St. Aldegonde studied theology under John Calvin and Theodore Beza at Geneva. Returning to the Netherlands in 1560, he threw himself energetically into the cause of the Reformation, taking an active part in the compromise of the nobles in 1565 and the assembly of Sint-Truiden.
