Sun Yu: was a major leftist film director active in the 1930s in Shanghai. One of the core directors of the Lianhua Film Company, Sun Yu made a name for himself with a series of socially conscious dramas in the early to mid 1930s. With the war, Sun Yu made his way to the interior of the country, where he continued to make films glorifying the war effort against the Japanese.His career took a turn for the worse upon his return to Shanghai in the late 1940s. In The Life of Wu Xun, Sun Yu's big-budget biographical picture of the titular Qing Dynasty educator, Sun attracted the wrath of Mao Zedong himself, who personally criticized the film in an essay. Though Sun never fully recovered from the episode, today, Sun Yu has emerged as one of the foremost filmmakers of China's golden age.

Weiguo Sun: is the president of Xihua University in Chengdu, Sichuan, People's Republic of China. He earned his bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1977 from Xihua Normal University in Chengdu, and his masters degree in 1981 from Jilin University. He taught physical chemistry courses as a lecturer at Sichuan University from 1982 to 1986. He traveled to the U.S.A. in 1986 and studied with Prof. C. William McCurdy in physical chemistry at Ohio State University, earning his Ph. D. degree in February, 1992. He worked as a “participating guest” and postdoctoral researcher at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and at the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Oklahoma from 1991 to 1994. He was in charge of undergraduate education, continuing education, and distance education. As one of the members of the university leader team, he and his colleagues changed the traditional university education system into a credit system, reformed the education assessment and supervision system, and developed distance education and vocational education. His research interests in science are electron-molecule scattering, atomic and molecular photoionization, molecular vibrational and rovibrational spectra, molecular potentials.
