There is a new radio documentary about Jeffrey Scott “Jeff” Buckley called, “Sin-é: Jeff Buckley’s Irish Odyssey,” which was produced by Steve Cummins a music journalist. The documentary will be on RTÉ Radio One – Documentary on One strand.
Right before Buckley’s 50th birthday, Cummins toured with The Commitments and explored the music lifestyle. Everything from Buckley’s Irish roots to the connections in Ireland were explored.
Not to mention the audio footage of the performance at Trinity Ball back in 1992, which included a five-song set of different covers of various artists, from Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, to Van Morrison. Many of the songs had never been heard before, as the gig happened before Buckley signed his big deal for his celebrated album “Grace”.
The documentary also includes stories about Cummins' friendships with the band members, like Mark Geary and Glen Hansard. Right now, the documentary is online and will be aired on Saturday, November 12th and 13th on RTÉ Radio One.
When Jeffrey Scott “Jeff” Buckley was a child he went by his middle name Scott. He then changed to his first name after his father died of a drug overdose, however, to his family he will alway be “Scottie”.
The masculine name Jeffrey is the medieval version of Geoffrey, which is the Norman French form of a Germanic name. The name is comprised of two elements, the second is the Germanic frid that means “peace”, while the first element is either walha “foreign”, gawia “territory”, or gisil “hostage”.
