Leah Remini on Scientology

Date 2016-11-24

The former member of the church of Scientology, Leah Remini is speaking out on behalf of those who are “bullied” by people in the organization. She went on the Ellen DeGeneres Show because she felt responsible for helping those still stuck in that situation.

The new docu-series on A&E “Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath,” was made because she felt like she needed to make a contribution. However, her own story is nothing compared to many people who are still in the church of Scientology, as most people who are bullied don’t have any options or even a voice.

Remini, 46, was a Scientologist from the young age of 8-years-old and left the group back in 2013. Her story was told in the book “Troublemaker,” which came out last year. The church of Scientology has even disputed her allegations and denounce Remini.

She revealed to Ellen DeGeneres that people in the church become obsessed with a lot of good things, which is great. However, many also trivialize other matters, like people’s behaviors, which is becoming a problem and making new victims.

The feminine name Leah is taken from the Hebrew name Le’ah that is most likely derived from the Hebrew word le’ah, which means “weary”. While others believe that it was derived from a Chaldean name that means “ruler” or “mistress” in Akkadian.

The name became popular after Leah from the Old Testament, who was the first wife of Jacob and the mother of his children. The name was commonly used in the Middle Ages by Jews but did not become a typical English Christian name until after the Protestant Reformation.
