Sharon Jones Has Passed Away

The soul singer, Sharon Jones has passed away at the age of 60-years-old. Since 2013, the singer has been battling pancreatic cancer and took a break from singing to have chemotherapy and surgery, according to Fresh Air. Eventually, the cancer went into remission. However, it returned with a vengeance this year.

The lead singer of the Dap-Kings was having trouble singing, as she was struggling to breathe. In fact, when she came back to perform with the band, things had changed. The dynamic performance was just not the same and the energy level wasn’t there. Jones underwent many treatments while performing this year, but had to cancel a tour in the summer due to medical procedures.

At the age of 40, Jones released her very first album. After that, she had many gigs in Brooklyn as a session singer. She was inspired to sing while performing in a Christmas play as a child.
