Actor Steven Hill Has Died

The famous star from “Law & Order” and “Mission: Impossible,” Steven Hill has died at the age of 94. Hill was known for his lead roles on two television series over the years, has died in Manhattan on Tuesday.

Confirming his death was Sarah Gobioff - his daughter. The television and veteran stage actor started his career when he was cast as Daniel Briggs in 1966, the head of an top covert-operations unit, on “Mission: Impossible”. Leaving after the very first season, he paved the way for the show's new lead actor Peter Grave.

Next, the actor was cast in the role of the district attorney - Adam Schiff on “Law & Order,” a new show focused on lawyers  and cops based in New York. The role he played was modeled after Robert M. Morgenthau, the long-time district attorney in Manhattan.

Hill has also had a small role on the Broadway stage in “A Flag Is Born” and on the Tony Award-winning comedy “Mr. Roberts” with Henry Fonda. Working his way through different television series, like “The Country Girl” or the “Actors Studio,” even a film debut on “A Lady Without Passport.”

The name Steven is a variant of Stephen taken from the Greek name Stephanos meaning “crown”. The name became popular after Saint Stephen from the New Testament. It was also the name of many kings and popes over the years and has a rich history from Poland, Serbia to England. Given to notable people like the British physicist Stephen Hawking.
