Henry Draper: was an American doctor and astronomer. He is best known today as a pioneer of astrophotography.was an accomplished doctor, chemist, botanist, and professor at New York University; he was also the first to photograph the moon through a telescope in the winter of 1839-1840.[1] Draper's mother was Antonia Coetana de Paiva Pereira Gardner, daughter of the personal physician to the Emperor of Brazil.Draper was one of the pioneers of the use of astrophotography. He took the first stellar spectrum in 1872 that showed absorption lines. He directed an expedition to photograph the 1874 transit of Venus, and was the first to photograph the Orion Nebula, on September 30, 1880 using his 11 inch Clark Brothers photographic refractor he took a 50 minute exposure.[1] For his activities he received numerous awards, including honorary law degrees from NYU and the University of Wisconsin-Madison,

William Franklin Draper: was Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy, and an American painter.[1]In 1942, Draper entered the Naval Reserves as a Lieutenant Junior Grade. After his initial training, Draper was assigned to the Anti-Submarine Warfare Unit in Boston. Following his service in Boston, he transferred into the Naval Art Section, and was dispatched to Alaska, where he spent nearly half a year painting in the Aleutian Islands Chain. He was in Amchitka when the Japanese invaded during World War II, and his paintings depict the attacks, as seen from his close-range foxhole.[2] Draper painted while dealing with the wind and Arctic weather, which made painting difficult, as he had to wear gloves to keep from getting frostbite.[1
