Fred W. Hetzel: is a retired American basketball player.A 6'8" forward/center from Davidson College, he was selected by the San Francisco Warriors with the first pick of the 1965 NBA Draft. Hetzel was named to the 1966 NBA All-Rookie Team. He played six seasons in the NBA (1965-71) with five teams and scored 4,658 career points. Fred J Scolari: was an American professional basketball player. At 5'10", he played the guard position.Though he was blind in one eye, deaf in one ear, and often overweight, Scolari excelled in basketball at Galileo High School and the University of San Francisco. In 1946, he joined the Washington Capitols of the Basketball Association of America (now the NBA), and he went on to have a nine-year (1946–1955) professional career with the Capitols, Syracuse Nationals, Baltimore Bullets, Fort Wayne Pistons, and Boston Celtics. Scolari became known for his unorthodox, yet effective, shooting style, in which he released the ball from his hip. He was also a well-regarded defender, and he received All-BAA honors in 1947 and 1948.

Fred Lawrence Whipple: was an American astronomer.He is best known for writing an influential paper (published in Astrophysical Journal from 1950 to 1955) in which he proposed the "icy conglomerate" hypothesis of comet composition (later called the "dirty snowball" hypothesis). The basic features of this hypothesis were later confirmed, however the exact amount (and thus the importance) of ices in a comet is an active field of research, with most of the recently obtained data pointing to a low contribution of ices to a comet's mass (dubbed the "icy dirtball" hypothesis).

Fred Lasswell: was an American cartoonist best known for his work on the comic strip Barney Google and Snuffy Smith.Born in Kennett, Missouri, he got his start as a sports cartoonist for the Tampa Daily Times. While playing golf in the area, "Barney Google" creator Billy DeBeck noticed Lasswell's work and hired the 17-year-old as an assistant. After DeBeck's death of cancer in 1942, Lasswell took over the strip. Originally a sports- and urban-oriented strip, the cartoon introduced Google's hillbilly cousin Snuffy Smith in 1934. Under Lasswell's tenure, Google was gradually phased out and the strip's emphasis shifted to Smith, drawing on his rural upbringing for the stories.
