However, he did not sign. A year later, the Mets drafted him in the thirteenth round the same year they drafted Darryl Strawberry #1 overall. In his first season of professional ball, Ownbey was 9-1 with a 1.80 earned run average for the Lynchburg Mets and Jackson Mets.

Richard Devin Peters: is a former outfielder in Major League Baseball. After attending Arizona State University, Peters was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 1977 amateur draft. He played five seasons in the major leagues with the Detroit Tigers (1979-1981) and Oakland Athletics (1983 and 1986). He played in 307 games and had a career .277 batting average with a .356 on base percentage, 255 hits, 135 runs scored, 80 RBIs, 34 doubles, ten triples, and two home runs. His best season was 1980 when he played in 133 games for the Tigers (mostly in center field), batting .291 with a 369 on base percentage, 139 hits, 42 RBIs, 13 stolen bases, 19 doubles, seven triples, and two home runs.

Richard was called to the Quebec bar in 1965. He ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the Quebec assembly in 1973, losing to Marcel Bédard. Richard served as President of the National Assembly from 1976 to 1980. He was a member of the Quebec cabinet, serving as Minister of Communications from 1980 to 1981 and Minister of Cultural Affairs from 1981 to 1985. Richard did not run for reelection in 1985. He was a vice-president for Lavalin and then president/director general for Lavalin Communications from 1986 to 1991. He served on the administrative council for Place des Arts, serving as president of the council from 1995 to 2002, and was also a member of the executive committee for the Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal.

After first attempting to convince a Liberal to sit as speaker and then offering cabinet positions and other appointments to several Liberals, Richard accepted the post of provincial ombudsman, thus resigning his seat and increasing the Tory majority to 28/54 for the ensuing year before a by-election was held.

He was educated at University of St. Joseph's College, earning a BA degree before attending Dalhousie University where he graduated in 1918 with a Bachelor of Laws degree.Clovis Richard served as the Provincial Secretary-Treasurer from July 16, 1935 to January 10, 1940. He left provincial politics in 1945 to successfully run for a seat in the Canadian House of Commons as the Liberal Party of Canada candidate in the riding of Gloucester. Reelected in the 1949 Federal election, he served in Ottawa until retiring from politics in 1952.
