Tomáš Verner: a Czech figure skater. He is a five-time Czech national champion and 2008 European Champion. He is ranked 2nd in the world as of June 2008.[1].Verner started skating at the age of five and moved from his hometown to Prague for further training at the age of twelve.[2] He won his first national title in the 2001-2 season, and later that year represented the Czech Republic at the European Championships, where he finished 14th, and at the World Championships, where he failed to qualify for the free skate. Over the next four years, Verner finished as high as 10th place at Europeans and 13th at Worlds.

Frederick Arthur Verner: was a Canadian painter, famous for his landscape and scenery paintings from the Canadian plains in the west.Verner was born at Sheridan, Ontario, which was then called Hammondsville, in Upper Canada. Already as a boy he was fascinated and inspired by the paintings of Paul Kane and tried to convince this established painter to take him on as a pupil, but was turned away. A few years later, he went to London, where he studied at Hetherleys Academy of Arts from 1856 to 1860, before joining the British army, enlisting in the 3rd West York regiment. He returned to Toronto in 1862, where he worked first as a photograph colorist and then as a photographer himself. During this time, he became a friend of his long-time idol Paul Kane.

Karl (Adolph) Verner: was a Danish linguist. He is remembered today for Verner's law, which he discovered in 1875.Verner, whose interest in languages was stimulated by reading about the work of Rasmus Christian Rask, began his university studies in 1864. He studied Oriental, Germanic and Slavic languages, and then served in the army before resuming his studies. He travelled to Russia in December 1871, spending nearly a year learning the language. His first scientific paper was Nogle Raskiana (1874).At the same time he began to study the accent of Danish and the Slavic languages. According to his own account, upon getting up one morning, he was puzzled by the question why the Gothic words fadar and broþar have different consonants after the root vowel. Since he was preoccupied with the study of accent at the time, he sought the explanation in that direction. This led to the formation of Verner's Law. He finished the relevant paper and sent it to Vilhelm Thomsen in 1875. Urged by Thomsen, he published it a year later.

Verner became a prominent political personality in the German Democratic Republic after the war. In 1925 he joined the Young Communist League of Germany (KJVD). In 1929 he became a member of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). He worked as a volunteer in the communist publishing house Kämpfer-Verlag in Chemnitz. He became a member of the regional leadership of KJVD in Saxony. In 1932 he became editor of Junge Garde ('Young Guard').[1]
