Nicolaas Gerard Pierson: was a Dutch Liberal financial and economic expert, politician, and statesman, chairman of the Council of Ministers (prime minister) of the Netherlands from 1897 until 1901.Pierson was a professor economics and statistics at the University of Amsterdam and director and presiding director (president-directeur) of the De Nederlandsche Bank, the Dutch national bank. He was minister of Finance in the Cabinet Van Tienhoven.

Nicolaas Everaerts: was a Dutch jurist and the father of Johannes Secundus, an acclaimed poet. He is not to be confused with Nicolaus Everardi (1495–1570) and his son Nicolaus Everardi (1537–86), both professors in Ingolstadt.His only work published during his lifetime, Topicorum seu de locis legalibus liber (1516) as well as the posthumously published Responsa sive consilium (1554) came to be of great practical importance to the jurists of the time.

Nicolaas Beets: was a Dutch theologian, writer and poet. He published under the pseudonym, Hildebrand.Nicolaas Beets was born in Haarlem, the son of a pharmacist. From 1833 till 1839 he studied theology at the university of Leiden where he received his doctorate.In 1840 he became a minister at the Dutch Reformed Church in Heemstede. In the same year he married Aleida van Foreest. In 1854 he moved to Utrecht where from 1874 till 1884 he was a professor in church history at the University of Utrecht.

Nicolaas Hartsoeker: was a Dutch mathematician and physicist who invented the screw-barrel simple microscope[1] circa 1694.Nicolaas was the son of Christiaan Hartsoeker (1626-1683), a Remonstrant minister in Moordrecht near Gouda. His father would take the family to Alkmaar in 1661 and finally to Rotterdam in 1669. Nicolaas started to make a living as a lensmaker in Rotterdam, and was instructed in optics by Antoni van Leeuwenhoek. In 1674, he and a fellow student, assisted by Van Leeuwenhoek, were the first to observe semen, a situation that would later lead to a priority dispute between Hartsoeker and Leeuwenhoek over the discovery of spermatozoids.
