The stone, often used for carvings, has also been called "stone of the colic" from the belief that it could cure colic. The Spanish passed the word on to the French, which was, subsequently, passed on to the English. Along the way, "Jade" also notoriously became slang for "prostitute."

The jade stone is used in jewelery, carvings, burial suits and weapons.
