Colin Kaepernick Will Donate Money From His Jersey Sales

Date 2016-09-07

Ever since Colin Kaepernick started staging protests during the national anthem, his San Francisco 49ers jersey has skyrocketed to the top sellers. Right now his jersey #7 is on the NFL Store’s website for $99, which is a ton of money for the quarterback.

The deal between the player’s union and the league, states that players will receive 2/3 of jersey sales. The other 1/3 is either put in a pool for players in the NFL or goes towards the union. The NFL and NFLPA did not reply to the questions CNNMoney had about donating the money.

The total amount of money made from the jersey is not yet known. However, the increase in the sales of Kaepernick's jersey is a good sign – people are supporting his protests in the NFL. Even though some have scorned the way he has been making a stand.

Kaepernick was not expecting the sales of his jersey to jump, but it just solidifies that people do support him and together they can get equality and justice for all.

The name Colin is a Medieval diminutive of the name Col, which is short for Nicholas. The name Nicholas was taken from the Greek Nikolaos that means “victory of the people,” which is perfect for the NFL player. The name became common after Saint Nicholas a bishop from the 4th century, who saved poor women from prostitution; and is known as the patron saint of sailors, merchants and children.
