Nguyen Xuan Hung – Vietnamese Scientist

As a computer science researcher, Nguyen Xuan Hung works at the Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) University of Technology and the China Medicine University in Taiwan doing research. He focuses on the advanced trends of complex computational methods, as well as, computer-based simulation in engineering application.

Nguyen is also a professor of civil engineering at the HCMC University of Technology, as well as, the director of the Center for Interdisciplinary research in Technology with the HUTECH high-tech Institute. During his career, he has published over 80 articles in many prestigious journals in composites calculation, computational mathematics, practical mathematics, and facsimile. Furthermore, his work has been published in Germany, the United States, Singapore, and in the Netherlands.

His research and papers rank in the top one percent of those cited by other journals. In fact, the information and multimedia firm Thomson Reuters named him one of the most influential scientific minds in the world in 2016. Nguyen also made the list back in 2014 and 2015.

The family name Nguyen is taken from the Sino-Vietnamese character 元 and means “first” or “original”. His middle name is Xuan and is taken from the Sino-Vietnamese word 春 that means “spring”. The given name Hung is from the Sino-Vietnamese character 雄 that means “manly” or “brave”.

The given name Hung is common in Vietnam. It is given to many notable people, from Hung Hei-gun the founder of the martial art Hung Gar Kung Fu to Hung Shing a Chinese government official during the Tang Dynasty.
