Zach Galifianakis is in “Masterminds”

“Masterminds” is a story about meager gray matter and grand larceny, which stars Kristen Wiig and Zach Galifianakis as two crooks. At the start of the comedy, Galifianakis blames popular culture for all his actions.

The actor Zacharius Joy “Zach” Galifianakis has a silly southern accent in the film and a crazy fluffy hairstyle playing the character, David Ghantt, who was a felon in real life. Ghantt was involved in some ostentatious crimes back in the 1990s and often rationalized his miscreant deeds in weird ways.

“Masterminds” is a mix of a story that is based on true events and a TV sketch show with a surreal farce approach to popular culture. However, the results are mixed as the director takes a unique look at the North Carolina Loomis Fargo robbery back in 1997, that was named the Hillbilly Heist.

Although it is a choppy, yet comedic, ride the film has many funny one-liners and clips from some famous stars, like Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis, even Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon.

The masculine name Zach is a short version of Zachary that is the English version of Zacharias. It has been in this form since the Middle Ages. However, the name did not see any real popularity until the Protestant Reformation. Zacharias is the Greek version of Zechariah, which is taken from the Hebrew name Zekharyah that means “Yahweh remembers”.

The form Zacharius is used in the English-speaking world and comes from the New Testament in reference to the father of John the Baptist.
