Tarmizi Taher: was Indonesia's Minister of Religious Affairs from 1993 to 1998. After qualifying as a doctor, he made his career in the Indonesian Navy and retired with the rank of Rear Admiral. He then served as General Secretary of the Department of Religious Affairs for 5 years, before being appointed as Minister in 1993 . After leaving his ministerial position, Taher has held other public appointments, including Indonesian ambassador to Norway and Iceland.He is currently serving as the elected chairman of Dewan Masjid Indonesia (Indonesian Mosque Council), an umbrella organization of local Mosque councils, the president of Az-zahra Islamic University in Jakarta, and the president director of Center for Moderate Moslem (CMM), a non-governmental organization aiming at improving understanding and cooperation among islamic organizations.

Abu Taher: a communist and a left-leaning radical activist of the Jatiyo Samajtantrik Dal, responsible for the Soldiers Uprising and the radical breakout that occurred in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh in Nov 7th 1975. He joined the Bangladesh Liberation struggle against West Pakistan with the 11th Sector in the northern front. He was appointed sub-sector commander of Mahendraganj sub-sector by the 11th Sector Commander Major Ziaur Rahman. On October 10th 1971 Major Ziaur Rahman handed over the sector to Major Taher 10 October - 2 November 1971. He served for a brief period of 22 days until November 21, 1971, due to the tragic accident from a grenade explosion. He was taken to Pune, India, where his leg was amputated.
