Aki Shibahara: a musician. She is best known as being the bassist for The Warm Jets.After graduating high school, she moved to London to study music in 1992. Her music career began at age 18, when she played in an all-girl hard-rock band named Mustang Sally, who were fast making a name for themselves on the London gig circuit.Numerous more gigs with Mustang Sally followed, but she began to grow frustrated with the band's lack of progress and ambition. The bassist auditioned for Rock Goddess, a South London metal band signed to major label A&M who had enjoyed considerable critical acclaim and press attention in the mid-'80s, and was accepted into the band. However, while a good learning experience for the young bassist, Rock Goddess were slowly falling apart and she soon found herself with itchy feet once more.

She has lived in Montreal, where she teaches Japanese and publishes her novels in French, since 1991.Her second novel, Hamaguri, won the Prix Ringuet in 2000. Her fourth, Wasurenagusa, won the Canada-Japan Literary Prize in 2002. Her fifth, Hotaru, won the 2005 Governor General's Award for French fiction. Her books have been translated in English, Japanese, German and Hungarian.
