Amos Burn: was an English chess player, one of the world's leading players at the end of the 19th century, and a chess writer.He was born in Hull and moved to London at the age of 21. There he took chess lessons from future World Champion Wilhelm Steinitz, and, like his teacher, became known for his superior defensive ability. In his book The Praxis of My System Aaron Nimzowitsch named him among the top six "purely defensive players". From 1913 until his death, Burn edited the chess column of The Field, but he was never a professional player.
