Sir Richard McBride: was a British Columbian politician and is often considered the founder of the British Columbia Conservative Party. McBride was first elected to the provincial legislature in the 1898 election, and served in the cabinet of James Dunsmuir from 1900 to 1901. McBride believed that the province's system of non-party government was unstable and hindered development. After the lieutenant-governor appointed him the 16th Premier in June 1903 and McBride announced that his government was a Conservative Party administration and would contest the upcoming election along party lines. On October 3, 1903 McBride's party, the British Columbia Conservative Party won the first provincial election to be fought along party lines with a two seat majority.

Richard Andrew Patten: is a politician in Ontario, Canada. Patten was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, representing the riding of Ottawa Centre. Patten was first elected to the Ontario legislature in the 1987 provincial election, defeating incumbent New Democrat Evelyn Gigantes by just over 2000 votes in Ottawa Centre. Patten was appointed a cabinet minister in the government of David Peterson, serving as Ontario Minister of Government Services from September 29, 1987 to August 2, 1989, and as Ontario Minister of Correctional Services from August 2, 1989 to October 1, 1990. Gigantes defeated Patten during the snap 1990 provincial election, in which the New Democrats scored an upset victory over the Liberals. For the next five years, Patten served as President and CEO of the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) Foundation, doing extensive fund-raising work for the organization.

Richard Spink Bowles: was a lawyer and office holder in Manitoba, Canada. He served as the province's 16th Lieutenant Governor from 1965 to 1970. Bowles had no political experience prior to his appointment as Lt. Governor, and was only the second non-political appointee to the position (James Duncan McGregor was the first, although McGregor had previously worked for the federal government in a non-partisan capacity). In 1972, Bowles campaigned for the federal House of Commons as a Liberal, in the rural riding of Lisgar. Due to the prestige of his former office, there was widespread speculation that he would be appointed to the cabinet of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau if elected. As it happened, however, he lost to Progressive Conservative Jack Murta by 17253 votes to 4469, and did not return to political life thereafter.

Richard John Joseph Durante: was a Liberal Party member of the Canadian House of Commons. He was a supervising principal by career. vIn the 1968 general election, Tom Barnett was initially declared the winner of the Comox—Alberni riding over Durante by a three-vote margin. But the Liberals demanded a recount whose result gave Durante a nine-vote lead, therefore giving Durante the seat in Parliament. However, Barnett and his party's riding association filed a court challenge that concluded on 3 February 1969 when two British Columbia Supreme Court court judges ruled that twelve Canadian Forces members had voted despite being ineligible. The result was therefore invalidated. Durante was allowed to remain a member of the House of Commons for one additional week, to allow time for a possible appeal.

After first attempting to convince a Liberal to sit as speaker and then offering cabinet positions and other appointments to several Liberals, Richard accepted the post of provincial ombudsman, thus resigning his seat and increasing the Tory majority to 28/54 for the ensuing year before a by-election was held.

He was educated at University of St. Joseph's College, earning a BA degree before attending Dalhousie University where he graduated in 1918 with a Bachelor of Laws degree.Clovis Richard served as the Provincial Secretary-Treasurer from July 16, 1935 to January 10, 1940. He left provincial politics in 1945 to successfully run for a seat in the Canadian House of Commons as the Liberal Party of Canada candidate in the riding of Gloucester. Reelected in the 1949 Federal election, he served in Ottawa until retiring from politics in 1952.

In 1948, Richard also entered provincial politics and was elected by acclamation to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick as the Liberal Party member for Gloucester County. He was reelected in 1952, 1956, 1960, 1963, and again in 1967.

Mary Richard: was an aboriginal activist and politician in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. She was the first Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Thunderbird House in north Winnipeg, which opened its doors in 2000. Although this was intended as a tourist destination, it soon became primarily a social outreach centre for the many low-income persons living in the area. Under Richard's leadership, Thunderbird House became active in programs to assist aboriginal youth escape solvent abuse, gang life and the sex trade. She campaigned for the Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba in the 1999 provincial election, in the constituency of Point Douglas. Richard's campaign was part of an effort by Gary Filmon's government to increase its profile in the aboriginal community. She received 1224 votes (19.56%), an improvement over previous Conservative candidacies in the area. The winner was George Hickes of the New Democratic Party. The following year, Richard crossed to the Liberal Party of Canada and ran as that party's candidate in Winnipeg North Centre for the 2000 federal election. In explaining this move, Richard told a Winnipeg Free Press reporter that she had long supported the Progressive Conservatives at the provincial level and the Liberals at the federal level. She received 6,755 votes, finishing second against New Democrat Judy Wasylycia-Leis.
