He was discovered by Michael Schenker upon the guitarist's hearing a Fraser Nash demo. He appeared on The Michael Schenker Group [1980], MSG [1981] and One Night at Budokan [1981] albums. He was asked to leave the group and in the interim worked with Gary Moore. Barden returned to MSG in 1983 for the album Built to Destroy [1983], followed by the live album Rock Will Never Die [1984].

He has played as a second baseman, third baseman, and shortstop.Barden was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the sixth round of the 2002 Major League Baseball Draft. He made his major league debut with the Diamonbacks, but was later signed off waivers by St. Louis.[1][2]Barden was batting .295 with nine home runs and 35 RBI for the Cardinals' Triple-A Pacific Coast League affiliate, the Memphis Redbirds, when his season was ended as the result of being named to the 2008 USA Olympic Baseball Team.[3]
