He defeated again when he ran in the 1892 provincial election for the electoral district of Napierville. From 1888 to 1893 he was president of the Association Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Montréal. In 1890, he was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. He was called to the Senate of Canada for the senatorial division of Mille Isles on the advice of Wilfrid Laurier in 1903.
