Edmond Richer: was a French theologian known for several works advocating the Gallican theory that the Pope's power was limited by authority of bishops, and by temporal governments. In his Historia Conciliorum Generalium as with other works, Richer elaborated upon and defended Gallicanism, an early theory that described the limits of papal power, and provided one of the early constructs of what later evolved to be the modern concept of "separation of church and state", an important theme in the political history of the United States. Richer's explanation and defense of the theory and practice of Gallicanism was an expression of French resistance to the power and reach of the Pope during that period.[1]

When the pest had ceased, in consequence of a vow he made, the authorities, in gratitude, established a college of the Society to which Auger asked much to their astonishment, that the children of the Calvinists might be admitted. His whole life was one of constant activity, preaching and administering the responsible offices of Provincial, Rector etc., that were entrusted to him.
