After his birth the family moved to Medford, Massachusetts. When Gould was ten years old his family, which then included three children, moved to Freeport, Maine. Gould was responsible for farm chores before and after school, but his father stressed the importance of his education. His family subscribed to The Youth's Companion, the Rural New Yorker and The Boston Post, all of which published materials submitted by the young writer.

Morton Gould: was an American pianist, composer, conductor, and arranger.During the Depression, Gould, while a teenager, worked in New York City playing piano in movie theaters, as well as with vaudeville acts. When Radio City Music Hall opened, Gould was hired as the staff pianist. By 1935, he was conducting and arranging orchestral programs for New York's WOR radio station, where he reached a national audience via the Mutual Broadcasting System, combining popular programming with classical music.

Alexander Jerome Gould: Gould was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, the son of Jewish parents Valerie and Tom Gould.[1][2] He began acting at the age of two and is perhaps best known for providing the voice of the title character of Disney/Pixar's Finding Nemo. His on-camera credits include guest spots on the television series Ally McBeal, Malcolm in the Middle, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. In 2004, he starred as David Collins in the WB remake of the soap opera Dark Shadows. However, the pilot was rejected by the WB Television Network, and it never aired. Since 2005, he has starred as Shane Botwin on the Showtime series Weeds.
