Herbert McLean Evans: was a U.S. anatomist and embryologist.His medical research at Berkeley addressed problems relating to human nutrition, endocrinology, embryology, and histology. In 1918, his research into the number of human chromosomes led him to believe the number to be 48, when most people assumed the number to be much higher. It was only later discovered that the correct figure was 46. Evans had much greater success however with hormones extracted from the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland. He isolated Human Growth Hormone, which was essential for human growth and development. In 1922 along with Katharine Scott Bishop, during feeding experiments on rats, he co-discovered Vitamin E which is needed for human reproduction.[

Herbert Ferber Silvers,: was an American sculptor and painter, born in New York City. He began his independent artistic studies in New York in 1926 at evening classes at the Beaux-Arts Institute of Design, while attending Columbia University Dental School. In 1930, he attended the National Academy of Design, and that summer he was awarded a scholarship to work at The Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation in Oyster Bay, New York. He also began part-time work as a dentist. Impressed by African sculpture, he purchased his first piece of African art in 1931. Ferber received his dentistry degree in 1930, and, until the 1950s, he maintained two careers, as Abstract expressionist sculptor and dentist.

Herbert Lawrence Block,: was an American editorial cartoonist and author.During the course of his long career, he won three Pulitzer Prizes (1942, 1954, 1979), the Presidential Medal of Freedom (1994), the National Cartoonist Society Editorial Cartoon Award in 1957 and 1960, the Reuben Award in 1956, and the Gold Key Award (the National Cartoonists Society Hall of Fame) in 1979.His first cartoon appeared in the Chicago Daily News on April 24, 1929. It advocated for the conservation of America's forests. After working (1933–43) for the Newspaper Enterprise Association, in 1946 he joined the Washington Post, from which he never retired. His personal assistant for 44 years was Jean Rickard, now Executive Director of the Herb Block Foundation. Herblock's last cartoon was published on August 26, 2001. He died of pneumonia just six weeks later, at the age of 91.

There, he helped Fermi establish the Enrico Fermi Institute and was its director from 1958 to 1962. The latter part of his career was as a senior fellow at Los Alamos National Laboratory. He was a recipient of the Enrico Fermi Award.
