Lewis Boss            Origin/Culture/Country: American

Lewis Boss: was an American astronomer.Rhode Island and attended secondary school at the Lapham Institute in North Scituate and the New Hampton Institution in New Hampshire.[1] In 1870 he graduated from Dartmouth College, then went to work as a clerk for the U.S. Government. He served as an assistant astronomer for a government expedition to survey the U.S-Canadian border. In 1876 he became the directory of the Dudley Observatory in Schenectady, New York.He became editor of the Astronomical Journal in 1909, but responsibility passed to his son, Benjamin Boss, upon his death in 1912. Benjamin continued to edit the journal until 1941.

Lewis A. Swift: was an American astronomer.He discovered or co-discovered a number of comets, including periodic comets 11P/Tempel-Swift-LINEAR, 64P/Swift-Gehrels, and 109P/Swift-Tuttle (parent body of the Perseids meteor shower). He also discovered comets C/1877 G2, C/1878 N1, C/1879 M1, C/1881 J1, C/1881 W1, C/1892 E1, D/1895 Q1 (a.k.a. D/Swift, whose debris stream Mariner 4 probably encountered on September 15, 1967[2]), C/1896 G1 and C/1899 E1, and co-discovered C/1883 D1 (Brooks-Swift). Note, however, comet 54P/de Vico-Swift-NEAT was discovered by his son Edward D. Swift rather than by him.

Lewis Madison Terman: U.S psychologist, noted as a pioneer in cognitive psychology in the early 20th century at Stanford University. He is best known as the inventor of the Stanford-Binet IQ test. He was a prominent eugenicist and was a member of the Human Betterment Foundation.

Lewis John Stadler: was an American geneticist. His research focused on the mutagenic effects of different forms of radiation on economically important plants like maize and barley.While Stadler spent almost all his academic life at the University of Missouri he was also involved in activities with a wider scope. During the 1930s Stadler was involved in efforts to bring European scientists to the U.S. to escape Nazism. In 1948 Stadler was appointed a delegate to the Eighth International Congress of Genetics, meeting in Stockholm. The U.S. Department of Agriculture, however, rejected his passport application and conducted a loyalty investigation; Stadler at first thought it was a State Department action.

Lewis Howard Latimer: was an African American inventor and draftsman. Though Thomas Alva Edison is credited with the invention of the light bulb, Latimer made.George Latimer had been the slave of James B. Gray of Virginia. George Latimer ran away to freedom in Trenton, New Jersey in October, 1842, along with his wife Rebecca, who had been the slave of another man. When Gray, the owner, appeared in Boston to take them back to Virginia, it became a noted case in the movement for abolition of slavery, gaining the involvement of such abolitionists as William Lloyd Garrison. Eventually funds were raised to pay Gray $400 for the freedom of George Latimer.[3] One of Lewis's siblings was named William H. Latimer (1846-1892), who worked as a barber.

Edward Norman Lewis: was a Canadian politician. He was Mayor of Goderich before being elected to the Canadian House of Commons for the riding of Huron West in the 1904 federal election. A Conservative, he was re-elected in 1908 and 1911. He did not run in 1917.

Bryan Lewis: is a Canadian municipal politician and a former referee and Director of Officiating for the National Hockey League. His first NHL experience was in the 1966–67 NHL season. He worked more than 1000 games at the NHL level, and was named Director of Officiating in 1989, following the sudden death of his predecessor, John McCauley. In this position, he oversaw a staff of 90, as well as the officiating of both the NHL and the AHL. He retired from this position in 2000. Lewis is still active in hockey, helping officials at the junior level. He is also a consultant for the East Coast Hockey League.

Douglas Grinslade "Doug" Lewis: is a Canadian former politician. Lewis entered the Canadian House of Commons when he won the seat of Simcoe North, Ontario, as a Progressive Conservative in the 1979 federal election. In the short-lived government of Prime Minister Joe Clark, he served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Supply and Service. Re-elected in the 1980 federal election that returned the Liberals to power, Lewis moved to the opposition benches, serving first as Deputy House Leader from 1981 to February 1983, and then as Official Opposition House Leader until September 1983. With the victory of the Progressive Conservatives under Brian Mulroney in the 1984 general election, Lewis again became a parliamentary secretary. In 1987, he entered the Cabinet as both Minister of State to the Government House Leader and Minister of State (Treasury Board). At the end of 1988, he became Acting President of the Treasury Board, and, a month later in January 1989, he was named Minister of Justice. He also served as Government House Leader from April 1989 to February 1990.

William James Lewis            Origin/Culture/Country: American

William James Lewis: was a physician and political figure in New Brunswick, Canada. He represented Albert County in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1879 to 1896 and Albert in the Canadian House of Commons from 1896 to 1904 as an Independent and then Liberal member. He was educated there and at Sackville, then went on to study medicine at the University of Glasgow. He served as coroner for Albert County and was also a school trustee. He practised medicine in Hillsborough. He was married twice: to Melissa Steeves in 1877 and to Catherine Duffy in 1885. Lewis was a member of the province's Executive Council from 1882 to 1883.

Mungo Turnbull Lewis            Origin/Culture/Country: American

Mungo Turnbull Lewis: was a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1936 to 1945. Lewis was elected to the Manitoba legislature in the 1936 provincial election as a Conservative, defeating Liberal-Progressive incumbent William C. McKinnell by 383 votes in Rockwood. The Liberal-Progressives formed a minority government after the election, and Lewis served with his party on the opposition benches. The Conservatives joined the Liberal-Progressives in a coalition government in 1940, and in this manner Lewis became a backbench supporter of John Bracken's administration. He was re-elected in the 1941 provincial election as a pro-coalition independent, and later aligned with the Liberal-Progressives. He was defeated in the 1945 provincial election, losing to Progressive Conservative candidate W.J. Campbell by 298 votes.
