Aleksander Zawisza: was the Prime Minister of the Polish Government in Exile. He remained in office for just over 14 years, from June 25, 1956 to July 16, 1970.Previously the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in 1959 he played a part in moving the wartime archives of the Ministry of Information and Documentation from the UK to the Hoover Institution at Stanford University.

Aleksander Czekanowski: was a Polish geologist and explorer of Siberia.He took part in the January Uprising (1863); in the aftermath he was exiled to Siberia by the Russian authorities; where he took part in and later led several expeditions. In 1870 he received a gold medal from the Russian Geographical Society.

He published more than 1,500 titles and discovered the Holy Cross Sermons.

Aleksander Fredro: was a Polish poet, playwright and author.Count Aleksander Fredro, of the Boncza coat of arms, was born in the village of Surochów near Jaroslaw, then a crown territory of Austria. A landowner's son, he was educated at home. He entered the Polish army at age 16 and saw action in the Napoleonic wars, including the Moscow campaign. His memoir Topsy Turvy Talk, which echoes the style of Laurence Sterne's Tristram Shandy, recounts his military experiences during Bonaparte's last campaign. While in France in 1814, he took an active interest in French drama. After leaving the army he settled on his estate and began as a writer.

Åge Aleksandersen: is a Norwegian singer, songwriter and guitarist. He is one of his country's most famous singer/songwriters, musicians. Some of his most well known songs are "Lys og Varme" (Light and Warmth), "Fire Pils og en Pizza" (Four Pilseners and a Pizza) and "Rosalita". He also wrote and performed the official song of the 1997 Nordic skiing World Championship (held in Trondheim) together with two other musicians from the region, Ulf Risnes and Bjarne Brøndbo and the Nidaros Cathedral Boys' Choir. The song was called "Snørosa" (The Snowrose).

Oddny Aleksandersen: is a Norwegian politician for the Labour Party. Born in Vadsø, she chaired the local party chapter in Vadsø from 1979 to 1982 and was a member of the executive committee of Vadsø municipal council from 1979 to 1983. Elected to the county council in 1983, she served as deputy county mayor for one term, and acting county mayor from May 1986 to April 1987, during the illness of county mayor Helmer Mikkelsen. On the national level, she served briefly as personal secretary (today known as political advisor) in the Ministry of Justice and the Police in 1981. She was later Minister of Government Administration and Labour from September 1992 to October 1993, in the third cabinet Brundtland. She was the third woman in a row to hold this position; the first man to be Minister of Government Administration was Nils Olav Totland, who succeeded Aleksandersen in 1993.
