There was some speculation that he would retire after the 2006 season; however this seems to not be the case as Bengt appeared in the official IFK magazine stating that he will probably continue for at least three more years. He is known to be a good penalty shooter

He was nicknamed Fölet (meaning The Foal).After starting his carrier playing for two local clubs, he joined IFK Göteborg in 1951 and won a Swedish Championship with the club. He played 599 matches for IFK during his 17 seasons there, a club record that would stand for 30 years, before being beaten by Mikael Nilsson.
