Berthold Delbrück: was a German linguist who devoted himself to the study of the comparative syntax of the Indo-European languages.Delbrück was professor of Sanskrit and comparative linguistics at the University of Jena (1870-1912). In 1871 he published a study of the subjunctive and optative moods in Sanskrit and Greek, which was the first thoroughly methodical and complete treatment of a problem in comparative syntax. His great achievement, however, was preparing the three volumes on syntax in Grundriss der vergleichenden Grammatik der indogermanischen Sprachen (Outline of the Comparative Grammar of the Indo-Germanic Languages), published between 1893 and 1900.

Thomas Berthold: a German football coach and former defender.He played 322 games in the Bundesliga, scoring 22 goals for Eintracht Frankfurt between 1982 and 1987. From 1987 until 1991 he played in Italy: for Hellas Verona (1987–1989) and AS Roma (1989–1991). He then returned to Germany, signing for FC Bayern München (1991–1993) and VfB Stuttgart (1993–2000). Berthold's last season as an active player was with the Turkish league club Adanaspor for whom he played until 15 January 2001.

Arnold Adolph Berthold: a German physiologist and zoologist. He studied medicine in Göttingen in 1819 and wrote his thesis under the direction of Johann Friedrich Blumenbach (1752-1840). Berthold became a private lecturer in 1825 and began to teach physiology at the University of Göttingen where he spent the rest of his career. He is known as a pioneer in endocrinology due to his experiments on the role of the gonads in the development of secondary sexual characteristics. He published important works on reptiles and amphibians as well as on avian physiology. In the field of entomology, he authored Natiirliche Familien of Thierreichs (1827).
