Tetsuo Hamuro: was a Japanese Olympic champion swimmer. During the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, Germany, he won the gold medal in the Men's 200m Breaststroke event, with an Olympic record of 2:41.5. In 1990, Hamuro was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame.

He ran again in June of the same year and was elected for the first time. Losing his seat in 2003, he ran unsuccessfully for the House of Councilors in the Diet in 2004.
