In summer 1942 the Nazi regime began to deport Jewish people from Vienna. Many of them asked Kurt Lingens and his wife Ella Lingens for help. Some of the Jewish people stored their valuables at the house of Kurt Lingens. A polish underground movement, with which the couple worked together, asked them to help two Jewish couples to escape or to find a suitable hideaway.
Kurt Sieveking Origin/Culture/Country: German
Kurt Sieveking: was a German politician (CDU) and First Mayor of Hamburg. In his position as the head of a German state, he was serving as President of the Bundesrat in 1956–1957. In 1951, Sieveking was appointed as the consul in Stockholm and later ambassador in Sweden. In 1953, Sieveking was the canditate of the conservative parties for the office of the First Mayor. He won the election, in his office term he reformed the school system and initiated the town twinning with Saint Petersburg (then Leningrad) in 1957. After the election defeat he remained member of the Hamburg Parliament.[1]
