Philippe Léotard: was a French actor, poet, and singer. He met Ariane Mnouchkine at the Sorbonne and in 1964 they formed the théâtre du soleil. He won a César Award for Best Actor for his role in the 1982 movie La Balance. One of his few English-language roles was a cameo in the 1973 thriller The Day of the Jackal and he co-starred as "Jacques" in the 1975 John Frankenheimer movie French Connection II which starred Gene Hackman and Fernando Rey, (sequel to The French Connection). He later died of respiratory failure at age 60.

Philippe De Luxembourg: was a French Cardinal[1] He was bishop of Le Mans in 1476. He was bishop of Thérouanne 1496 to 1513, and bishop of Saint-Pons in 1509, when his nephew died[2], and until 1512, when he resigned in favour of François-Guillaume de Castelnau de Clermont-Lodève. He was abbot at the abbey of Jumièges in 1510[3].

In 1842 Adrien Philippe invented a mechanism for watches which allowed them to be wound and set by means of crown rather than a key. His patented invention earned him a Gold Medal at the French Industrial Exposition of 1844 (World's Fair). At the Exhibition Adrien Philippe first met Antoni Patek and a year later became head watchmaker at Patek & Co. in Geneva under an agreement that entitled him to one-third of all company profits.
