She has represented the riding of Renfrew—Nipissing—Pembroke since 2000, and was a member of the Canadian Alliance party from 2000 to 2003.

Francis "Frank" Gallant: was a merchant, mariner and political figure on Prince Edward Island. He represented 1st Prince in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1875 to 1876 as a Conservative member. In 1870, he married Katherine McKenna. Gallant was elected to the provincial assembly in an 1875 by-election held after Stanislaus Francis Perry was elected to the House of Commons. Gallant died in Tignish at the age of 64.

Amédée "Meddie" Gallant: was a farmer, fish exporter and political figure on Prince Edward Island. He represented 1st Prince in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1898 to 1900 as a Liberal. In 1877, he married Veronique Pineau. He was elected to the provincial assembly in an 1898 by-election held after Edward Hackett resigned his seat to run for a federal seat. He was supervisor of highways for West Prince. Gallant died in Bloomfield at the age of 56.

Augustin Gallant: was an educator, lawyer and political figure on Prince Edward Island. He represented 3rd Prince in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1954 to 1959 as a Liberal. Gallant ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the provincial assembly in 1951, losing to J. Wilfred Arsenault. He was first elected to the provincial assembly in an 1954 by-election held after Arsenault resigned his seat. He served as speaker from 1956 to 1958. After he retired from politics, Gallant was a high school principal in Bagotville, Quebec. Twenty years later, he returned to Prince Edward Island, practising law at Alberton from 1979 to 1996. Gallant died in Summerside at the age of 77.
