Solon Nikitas: was a distinguished Cypriot judge and jurist. Born in Limassol, Cyprus in October 1937.He worked for the Nicosia Chamber of Commerce before deciding to study law in England and qualifying as a Barrister. From 1961 to 1971 he maintained a private practice as a lawyer in Nicosia. He was appointed as a District judge on 1 January 1971. He was promoted to Senior District judge on 10 October 1980 and to President of the District Court on 1 January 1982. On 19 November 1988 he was elevated to the Supreme Court where he served until 27 March 2003 when he was appointed Attorney-General of the Republic of Cyprus, a post from which he resigned in April 2005.
