Hugues Panassié: was a French jazz critic and producer. His most famous works were Hot Jazz: The Guide to Swing Music and The Real Jazz, published in 1936 and 1942, respectively. He is also remembered for financing a number of jazz records by artists such as Sidney Bechet and Tommy Ladnier.

Hugues-Bernard Maret: was a French statesman and journalist. The interest aroused by the debates of the first National Assembly suggested to him the idea of publishing them in the Bulletin de l'Assemblée. The journalist Charles-Joseph Panckoucke (1736–1798), owner of the Mercure de France and publisher of the famous Encyclopédie (1785), persuaded him to merge this in a larger paper, the Moniteur Universel, which gained a wide repute for correctness and impartiality.

Hugues De Lionne: was a French statesman. In 1646 he became secretary to the queen regent Anne of Austria; in 1653 obtained high office in the kings household; and in 1654 was ambassador extraordinary at the election of Pope Alexander VII. He was instrumental in forming the league of the Rhine, by which Austria was cut off from the Spanish Netherlands, and, as minister of state, was associated with Mazarin in the Treaty of the Pyrenees (1659), which secured the marriage of Louis XIV to the infanta Maria Theresa of Spain.

Hugues Dufourt: is a French composer and philosopher associated with the Spectral school of composition. Born in Lyon on September 28 1943, Dufourt studied piano and composition at the Geneva Conservatory. Dufourt is a founding member of the Ensemble l'Itinéraire in 1973 and of the CRISS (Collectif de Recherche Instrumentale et de Synthèse Sonore, Instrumental and Sound Synthesis Research Collective) in 1977.

Hugues Sambin: was a French sculptor, trained as a menuisier or wood-worker;[1] as a designer of Mannerist ornament his published designs, such as La diversité des termes ("The Diversity of Therm figures") Lyon, 1572, inspired luxury furnishings, such as dressoires, armoires and cabinets. Its preface was signed "Hugues Sambin, Architecteur en la ville de Dijon". As an architect, he worked on the designs for temporary festive structures for the Royal entry into Dijon of Henri II and that of Charles IX (1564), for which Sambin was coordinator; in more lasting commissions

Jean-Baptiste Hugues: was a French sculptor. He won the Grand Prix de Rome for sculpture in 1875. He was resident at the Villa Medicis from 1876 to 1879. When he was alive, he gained some fame : his works were exhibited at the Salons and were always commented on by critics and writers at the time. He produced several sculptures including La Fontaine des Danaïdes in Marseille or La Gravure at the National Library, pediments, bas-reliefs on monuments, busts, fountains and ceilings of Parisian restaurants.[1]
