Zelmo Beaty: is a former American basketball player.A 6'9" center from Prairie View A&M, Beaty was selected with the third pick of the 1962 National Basketball Association (NBA) Draft by the St. Louis Hawks. Beaty was named to the inaugural NBA All-Rookie Team in 1963, and played a total of seven seasons with the Hawks. He made two NBA All-Star Game appearances in 1966 and 1968 before leaving the NBA to play in the rival American Basketball Association (ABA). Beaty led the Utah Stars to the 1971 ABA title, then played three more seasons with the Stars before returning the NBA as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. He retired in 1975 with combined ABA/NBA totals of 15,207 points and 9,665 rebounds. He briefly served as a coach for the ABA's Virginia Squires.

James Beaty: was a mayor of Toronto from 1879 to 1880. He was then a Member of Canada's Parliament from 1880 to 1887. Following his terms as Toronto Mayor in 1879 and 1880, he won election to the Canadian House of Commons on 28 August 1880. He became a Conservative party member who represented the West Toronto riding. He was re-elected on 20 June 1882 to serve in the 5th Canadian Parliament. He lost the West Toronto Conservative nomination to Frederick Charles Denison in the buildup to the 1887 federal election, and returned to legal practice. In 1892, he made an unsuccessful bid to return as Toronto's Mayor. Beaty served as a bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada from 1881 to 1891.
