Chavalit Yongchaiyudh: a Thai politician and general who started his political career as Defence Minister, Deputy Prime Minister during the term of Chatichai Choonhavan from 1988 to 1991, as Minister of Interior from 1992 to 1994 and again Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence from 1995 to 1996. He was Thailand's 22nd Prime Minister from (1996-1997), and is of Sino-Thai and Lao descent.[1]In late 1996, following the Royal Decree of Parliament Closure a general election was held. On November 16, 1996, the New Aspiration Party led by Chavalit won the most seats and, with the approval of six minor coalition parties, namely New Aspiration, Chart Pattana, Social Action, Thai Citizen,
