Was a German philosopher, logician and encyclopedic writer from Siegen.[1] A follower of Ramus and pupil of Johann Heinrich Alsted at the Herborn Academy (Academia Nassauensis),[2] Bisterfeld became head of the academy in Weissenburg (Alba Iulia) in Transylvania, where he died. The Bisterfeldius redivivus (The Hague, 1661) appeared posthumously in two volumes, the first being Alphabeti philosophici libri tres, on universal language; this work is considered an influence on Leibniz.[2] He wrote other works, in particular on logic and theology.

Schulze is best known for the discovery that certain silver salts, most notably silver chloride and silver nitrate, darken in the presence of light. In an experiment conducted in 1724 he determined that a mixture of silver and chalk reflects less light than untarnished silver. Though his discovery did not provide the means of preserving an image - the silver salts continued to darken unless protected from light - it did provide the foundation for further work in fixing images.

On graduating from the University of Göttingen Bellermann accepted a position as teacher at Reval, Russia, where he remained for four years. On his return to Erfurt in 1782, he became "Magister legens" in the gymnasium, and later assistant professor of theology and philosophy in the University of Erfurt. In 1804 he was appointed director of the Gymnasium zum Grauen Kloster at Berlin, and professor of theology at the university in that city. He died at Berlin.

Johann Stephan Pütter was born to a merchant from Iserlohn, with his mother coming from the Varnhagen family of pastors from the same town.
