He was made the president of Sony in 1982. He was made the CEO of Sony in 1989.In 1994 he succeeded co-founder Akio Morita as Sony chairman. The next year he selected Nobuyuki Idei as the company's next president, a decision he later told author John Nathan appalled 99 out of 100 people at the company, and it led to a sweeping reorganization of the company. It is however generally considered a successful choice, and Idei became Co-CEO with Ohga in 1998, and sole CEO in 1999.

Was a Japanese businessman who was the founder of the Pioneer Corporation. He was born in Kobe, Japan in 1906. He founded the Fukuin Shokai Denki Seisakusho company in Osaka in 1936. In 1937 he created the A-8 speaker which he christened 'Pioneer'. Matsumoto relocated to Tokyo in 1938 and started a small factory which repaired radios and speakers. After the war the company expanded rapidly and in 1961 the name was changed to Pioneer Electronic Corporation, and it was listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Matsumoto died in 1988 at the age of 83.

After graduating from high school, Sahashi went to Paris to attend university and majored in physics although it took him five years to complete a two-year course. The award status of his degree is unknown.[2]Sahashi spent several years jobless after returning from France[2] before founding Nova in 1981 with two foreign English teachers.[3] He is the inventor of Nova's particular teaching method, "The NOVA System Concept", which he patented.
