Tanaka Hisashige: was a Japanese engineer and inventor during the late Edo and Meiji period Japan. He is one of the founders of what later became Toshiba Corporation. He has been called the "Thomas Edison of Japan" or " Karakuri Giemon". [1]Tanaka was born in Kurume, Chikugo province (present day Fukuoka prefecture) as the eldest son of a tortoise shell craftsman. A gifted artisan, in his youth he studied the design and construction of karakuri dolls, mechanical automatons capable of relatively complex movements, which were then much in demand by the aristocrats of Kyoto, daimyo in various feudal domains, and by the Shogun’s court in Edo. At the age of twenty-one, he performing around the country at festivals with clockwork dolls he constructed himself.

Tanaka Giichi: was a general in the Imperial Japanese Army, politician, and the 26th Prime Minister of Japan from 20 April 1927 to 2 July 1929.Tanaka was born to a samurai family in Hagi, Nagato Province (modern day Yamaguchi Prefecture), Japan. He graduated from the Imperial Japanese Army Academy and the Army War College in 1892, and served in the First Sino-Japanese War, and later in the Russo-Japanese War, as aide to General Kodama Gentaro. In 1906, he helped draft a defense plan which was so highly regarded by the Imperial Japanese Army General Staff that it was adopted by as basic policy until World War I.
