A variant of Anna. In Virgil's 'Aeneid', Anna was sister of Dido, Queen of Carthage. According to an apocryphal gospel, Anna was also the mother of the Virgin Mary. Anya was supposedly murdered by the Bolsheviks along with the rest of her family in 1918. However there is some speculation that she survived the attack.
