The famous menuet, Minuet in G major, previously attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach, has been established in the 1970s as a piece by Petzold.[1][2][3] Contemporaries held Petzold in high regard. Johann Mattheson and Ernst Ludwig Gerber both praised his skills, referring to him as "one of the most famous organists" and "one of the most pleasant church composers of the time", respectively. However, only a few of Petzold's pieces are extant today. He is best remembered for a pair of minuets that were copied into the 1725 Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach, compiled by Anna Magdalena Bach and her husband Johann Sebastian Bach. One of these minuets, the Minuet in G major, achieved wide recognition, but for decades was attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach. Petzold's authorship was only established in 1970s.[4]

Stead was a committed Marxist, although she was never a member of the Communist Party.[1] Although her birth and death were both in Sydney, New South Wales, Stead lived many years abroad in England and the United States. She first departed Australia in 1928, and worked in a Parisian bank from 1930 to 1935. Stead also became involved with the writer, broker and Marxist political economist William J.
