Dr. Maung Maung: was the 7th President of the Union of Myanmar, and a well-known writer. Maung Maung served in a legal capacity in General Ne Win's caretaker government from 1958–1960. Following Ne Win's 1962 military coup, Maung Maung became Chief Justice and, although a civilian, was a prominent member of the central committee of the BSPP. He played a large part in shaping the 1974 constitution and subsequent changes to the judicial system. On 19 August 1988, amidst a series of large-scale demonstrations, the People's Assembly declared Maung Maung President and Chairman of the BSPP. Anti-government demonstrations continued and widespread disruptions resulted in another military coup led by Saw Maung on 18 September 1988. After his brief spell in power in 1988, Maung Maung disappeared from the public eye, although it was rumoured that he helped draft the election law governing the 1990 general election.

Maung Maung Kha: was the 8th Prime Minister of Myanmar between 1977 and 1988. Maung Maung Kha was born to Khin Tint and Chit Pe in Yangon. He enrolled in University of Rangoon in 1937 to study engineering but left school in the final year of studies to join the Burma Independence Army (BIA) in 1941. He completed military training, and became a member of the Burmese armed forces during the Japanese occupation of Burma (1942–1945). After independence in 1948, he rose to the rank of colonel and served as the Director of Defence Industries of Burmese Armed Forces. Colonel Maung Maung Kha became a cabinet member in Gen. Ne Win's military government in 1972 when he was appointed Minister of Industry. Following the establishment of the Socialist Republic of the Union of Burma (SRUB) on 4 January 1974, and adoption of a new Constitution, Maung Maung Kha continued to served as Minister of Industry and later on as Minister of Mines. On 29 March 1977, he was appointed as the 8th Prime Minister of Myanmar. After increasing unrest in the country, on 26 July 1988, Maung Maung Kha was replaced by Tun Tin as Prime Minister.

Maung Thura "Zarganar"            Origin/Culture/Country: Asia

Maung Thura "Zarganar": is a popular Burmese comedian, film actor, and a film director as well as a fierce critic and often political prisoner of the Burmese military government. Known for his wicked puns against the government, Zarganar, whose name translates to "tweezers", is widely considered to be the most popular comedian and satirist in Myanmar. Thura first found success while still in college, performing amateur stage comedy shows at Yangon's universities under his stage name Zarganar (tweezers). He banded together with students from various colleges and institutes and formed a dance-troupe called Mya Kyun Tha. Later, he formed a drama group called Moe Nat Thuza which performed at student gatherings. Zarganar soon became a household name when his troupe began appearing on Burmese television in broadcasts of anyeint (a type of traditional Burmese theater) shows.

Maung Maung Ta: was born on January 9, 1926 in Mandalay, Upper Burma. His father, Khan Bahadur Hajee Gulam Hussain Sherazee, was consul for Persia in Burma (1929 - 1944), as was his grandfather, Khan Bahadur Aga Ali Akbar Sherazee (1910 - 1929). He joined the Burma Independence Army in 1942. He became a civilian attaché in 1943, serving as procurement officer within the Arms & Ammunition Department of General Aung San’s War Ministry, in Rangoon, Burma under Japanese Army occupation. He joined the resistance movement against the occupying forces as the Allies advanced into Burma. In 1950, Maung Maung Ta became an Infantry & Staff Captain, Burma Army. He attended the Staff Duty & Admin. training at the Burma Army Staff College arranged by the British Services Mission in Burma under Major-General Temple of the United Kingdom. Maung Maung Ta stood first in the Army Staff College Course Examinations of 1950 and for the year 1951.

Maung Aye: is the former Vice Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC), which was until March 2011, the ruling military junta of Burma. Maung Aye was the second highest-ranking member of the SPDC. Maung Aye and Senior General Than Shwe, along with six other top military officers, were reported to have resigned their military posts on 27 August 2010. He reportedly transferred the deputy commander-in-chief post to Lt-Gen Ko Ko, head of Chief of Bureau of Special Operation-3, but remains the country's deputy head of state. The rumours were later to be proven false.

Nay Win Maung: was a Burmese physician, businessman and pro-democracy activist. Maung advocated a conciliatory approach toward Myanmar's ruling military junta, which seized power in 1988. Maung argued that Burma could be moved towards democratization by working directly with the country's generals, rather than confronting them. Maung sometimes took political positions which proved controversial among Burma's opposition leaders, who often viewed his ties to the military government with suspicion. He stated that Aung San Suu Kyi should accept a new constitution written by the military as a token of goodwill. He believed that Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy (NLD) should only contest half the parliamentary seats in the 2010 general election, arguing that a landslide win for the NLD would scare the Burmese rulers into holding onto power. However, Maung heavily criticized the generals for rigging the 2010 general election when the extent of voter fraud became known. (The NLD ultimately boycotted the election).

Thu Maung: was a Myanmar Academy Award-winning film actor, singer as well as a distinguished writer and director. Throughout his film career, Thu Maung acted in over 40 films. He was born in Rangoon, Burma to parents U Thadu, a well-known author and director, and Daw Khin Nyo. Thu Maung was educated at St. Paul's High School. In 1966, he was admitted into the Government Technical High School, where he subsequently obtained a diploma in diesel engineering in 1969. During this period, he began writing poems and short stories for the Yuwadi Journal. In 1970, he published his first short story, "Thanakha Yay Kye Kye" under the pen name Oke Soe in the Wut Hmone Journal.

Ohn Maung            Origin/Culture/Country: Asia

Ohn Maung: was a Burmese politician who served as the Deputy Minister of Transport in Myanmar's pre-independence government. He, along with seven other cabinet ministers (including Prime Minister Aung San), was assassinated on 19 July 1947 in Yangon. July 19 is commemorated each year as the Martyrs' Day in Myanmar.
