Puran Chand Joshi: a Brahmin family of Almora, in Uttarakhand. In 1929, at the age of 22, the British Government arrested him as one of the suspects of the Meerut Conspiracy Case. The other early communist leaders who were arrested along with him included Shaukat Usmani, Muzaffar Ahmed, S.A. Dange and G.V. Ghate.

She was also the first "Indian" to be accepted into the "Bastion of the British"[1] school of La Martiniere Girls High School in Lucknow, India.

Damayanti Joshi: She danced and toured the world in Menaka's troupe from the time she was five and by 15 she had already performed at all the major cities of Europe, and was also receiving a full education. The Sokheys had employed Damayanti's biological mother and she was a rock that always stood by her daughter.After the mid-1950s, Damayanti established herself as a successful solo Kathak dancer, taking training from Pandits Achhan Maharaj, Lachhu Maharaj and Shambhu Maharaj of the Lucknow gharana and Guru Hiralal of the Jaipur gharana. She also taught Kathak at Indira Kala Vishvaidyalaya, Khairagarh, and Kathak Kendra in Lucknow. She has been honoured with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (1968) and the Padma Shri (1970). She was also the guru to Bireshwar Gautam.

Gajanan Anant Joshi: was a vocalist and violin player in Hindustani Music. He was an exceptionally gifted musician and teacher. He had consummate command over layakari whether he was singing a bada khayal in Jhaptal or Jhumra or Tilwada or Teentaal. He did not receive the recognition which his genius warranted.

Pandit Bhimsen Gururaj Joshi: an Indian vocalists in the Hindustani classical tradition. A member of the Kirana Gharana (school), he is renowned for the khayal form of singing, as well as for his popular renditions of devotional music (bhajans and abhangs). In 2008, he was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour.[1]Until the first half of the 20th century, khayal was principally taught in the Guru Shishya (master-disciple) tradition. Bhimsen's guru Sawai Gandharva was the chief disciple of Abdul Karim Khan, who along with his cousin Abdul Waheed Khan was the founder of the Kirana Gharana school of Hindustani music.
